Birds in the Attic!

So we knew that we had birds in the vent to our bathroom fan. In fact they have been nesting there for the past two years. I said to Ben in early spring-we had better seal off that vent..."Yes Dear" was the response that I got!
So I waited...because I was certainly not going up the ladder to fix it (my fear of heights combined with my own determination that this was the husbands job)
So a month later I inform him that the birds have come back and I thought I heard "babies" So we are on the same path as the prior years where now we have to wait for the little ones to leave before we can do anything.
HOWEVER, the birds had another plan.
One morning in May Julz came down complaining that she heard lots of baby birds in her room. I then heard them in the laundry room...BEN!!! Here is what we found:

This is the entrance to the attic in the girls room. This is a little door inside the back of their closet. Here you see Meg and Ab peering into the attic where their father is.

This is the giant birds nest that we pulled out of the attic.
I am keeping it for my science class!

Nice tush huh! The crate to the left is Ben's temporary solution to keep mama and papa bird from pecking his eyes out! the little birds have scattered and we are trying to scoot them out to the closet where Meg is catching them and putting them into a cat carrier.

This is a shot before the crate was up. As you can see they decided that our vent was not good enough and they needed a little more wing room. SO they broke it open and made our attic their new home if you click on the picture you can see the little birds-5 in all!

Here is another shot with Mama sticking her head in to feed the little darlings! Needless to say we have a new vent tube and vent cover so this should no be an issue again!
