On Monday my Grandma Lucy fell and hit her back. After many days severe pain, she was admitted (Thursday) to Geneva General Hospital with a fractured vertebrae. This is the first time she has been in the hospital in over 50 years. For those of you that know her she is never sick-she simply will not allow it
~And to see her in this much pain is very hard.
Please pray that she has relief from the pain soon,
and that her recovery is quick and without residual issues.

Saturday update: Grandma is scheduled for a back procedure on Monday afternoon. She is still a bit out of it with the pain medication she is on, but they are working to find a better balance for her. The plan now is that she will be in the hospital until @ Thursday and then transferred to a rehab center for somewhere between 1-3+ weeks.

Tuesday update: The Surgery was postponed again. Grandma was given a pain medication that she had a bad reaction to. They were able to give her something to counteract it-but she's pretty groggy and not ready to go down for the procedure. They are hopeful that she can get into surgery tomorrow, but couldn't promise anything. We will know more in the morning. Please keep checking back for updates. Thanks!
Thursday update: Grandma underwent the procedure on her back yesterday afternoon. We will go up to the hospital later to see how she's doing. She was in pain when she came out of surgery, which is to be expected. But we were told that usually there is considerable relief shortly after. Let's keep our fingers crossed! I'll post more when we know what will happen next. She's saying home-the Doctors are saying rehab...you never know who will win this battle!
Saturday (7/26): I went to see Grandma today. Physically she seems to be healing. She wasn't complaining of pain and she was up in her chair at the hospital. She was able to get up and move to the bed without much pain. This is a wonderful sign for her physical recovery.
However it is her mental recovery we are most worried about right now. She is still in a state of confusion, despite the fact that she's been taken off all the heavy medications. She was very sad-desperate to see her grand kids-and then in tears when they came up to see her.(I don't think I've really see her cry since my grandfather died, so she is not herself.) She was forgetting names and seemed to be a little confused as to what was happening around her. The doctors are running more tests to see if they can determine what is going on-but please continue to pray that she regains her strength-in all ways!
